Close your eyes, fall in love, stay there ...
Rumi

A Wedding Ceremony speaks of your love for one another, it is the most sacred and precious part of your special day.  Initially we will meet for a 'No Obligation' consultation, exploring what marriage means to you and discussing what your hopes and dreams are for this auspicious occasion.

When you choose me as your celebrant, I will invite you to spend time with me, planning for this special ceremony.  I will ask you what you want and we will discover what is significant to each of you and expresses who you are as a couple.  I will encourage you to write your own vows that will speak from your heart and not from a script.

I will respond to your beliefs or non-belief, so you can enjoy a humanist style celebration, with no spiritual content, or if you prefer, we can include in your ceremony any spiritual or religious words, songs or verses of your choice and from any faith path. Whichever you choose it will be truly meaningful.

Unlike a registry office, I am not restricted by certain legislation and regulations. I specialise in 'outdoor' Weddings, Handfasting and Same Sex Ceremonies because the 'Lake District' makes an amazing backdrop for any occasion large or intimate. However, there are many beautiful 'indoor venues' to choose from if you prefer not to risk the weather.

Rituals are an important part of making your day meaningful, so your ceremony may include the following:

  • Arrival of the couple (individually or together)
  • Welcome and introductions
  • Words of love and commitment
  • Reading, poem or prayer
  • The couple’s story
  • What marriage means to the couple
  • Second reading, poem or song
  • Vows, promises and commitments
  • Meaningful rituals i.e. handfasting, lighting of unity candle, warming of rings, sand ceremony
  • Exchange of rings
  • Pronouncement as married
  • Words of well-wishing
  • Closing and departure

With me as your celebrant, you are able to choose a very traditional wedding, or enhance the ceremony with whatever poems, readings, prayers or ancient rituals you wish (please visit my Handfasting and Vow Renewal pages for some ideas).

Whatever your preference, I will listen to you and craft a ceremony that will create beautiful and everlasting memories.

As an Interfaith Minister and Independent Celebrant, I have the freedom to officiate at any venue (including your own home), and I am not governed by any red tape restricting times, the choice of music, prayers, poems or rituals.  However, if you choose to hold your ceremony in England, the law still requires you legally register your marriage on a day prior to or after the ceremony.  This requires you to attend the register office in your area with two witnesses, make a legal commitment to each other and sign the register.  Alternatively, you can choose to hold your ceremony at any location in Scotland and I will be able to legally marry you, this marriage would then be recognised in England.

Please call or email to book a 'No Obligation' meeting where we can discuss your special day.

And still, after all this time
The sun has never said to the earth
“You Owe Me”.
Look what happens with love like that
It lights up the sky
